The Oakland Museum of California is creating a project about customization. We took our project logo to the East Bay Mini Maker Faire - where participants made a collection of stop-motion animations with the logo.

It was created for the exhibition, All Power to the People: Black Panthers at 50 at the Oakland Museum of California from October 8, 2016-February 26, 2017. Make Your Move @ OMCA was a pilot program developed by Muriel Maffre, Principal Dancer for the San Francisco Ballet, and Graduate Intern for the Oakland Museum of California (www.museumca.org). 

The program was a "hands-on" creative undertaking during which museum visitors experienced art through their body and mind. 

The first part of the program was a movement exploration workshop in the Gallery of California Art. In the second part of the program, participants chose an artwork on display in the Gallery, created an expressive gesture in response to the art, and donated the gesture to the Museum. 

The expressive gestures were videotaped by the Museum, and the collection is now posted on OMCA YouTube channel. In this video, program participant Danielle Forestier and Meredith Sanley chose Robert Hudson, Double Time, 1963 (Painted metal, 58.75 x 50 x 35 in.; Oakland Museum of California: Gift of the Women's Board).

The Oakland Museum of California goes from retro to metro in its 1950s-era Birth of the Cool and contemporary Cool Remixed exhibitions, opening May 17 through August 17, 2008. Cool Remixed is the museums topical spin on Birth of the Cool, a look at the mid-century music, architecture, fashion, and art of southern California, organized by the Orange County Museum of Art. Produced by Oakland Museum of California staff, Cool Remixed captures northern California cool via graffiti art, film, fashion, dance, skateboard and bike culture, and themed lounges where visitors can chill.

Timelapse video of Michael McMillen installing his work Aristotle's Cage at the Oakland Museum of California. http://museumca.org Santa Monica-based artist Michael C. McMillen had an early grounding in the film industry: his father was a set designer for film and television, and several of his neighbors were special effects technicians for the industry. After preliminary studies in engineering, McMillen switched his college major to art and began creating both miniature and full-scale walk-through environments based on imagined narratives. After graduation he was employed as a technician, creating miniature sets for such films as Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Aristotle's Cage presents a scene from which the viewer can create a personal narrative. Who lives in that old trailer in a desert junkyard? What must it be like to be alone in the desert at night with only a scratchy radio for company? And what does the skeletal figure chased by an equally skeletal dog bring to the scene? McMillen's miniature fantasy opens the imagination to a series of speculations and conclusions, not the least being "What does this have to do with Aristotle and what exactly is his cage?"
